YOU HAVE A LOT OF NERVE

Actually, you have a lot of "nerves" and a bunch of them run from your spinal cord to your scalp, neck and upper back. Most "tension" type headaches (as well as tension related neck and upper back aches) can be attributed to these little creatures. Let's say it is the end of your work day, you have one nerve left, and someone is getting on it. A series of biological events take place that cause the nerves (that control your neck and upper back muscles) to become hyperactive. The upper back muscles tighten up. The muscles at the base of the skull (and scalp) get really tight. A good stress release might be to pound the snot out of your co-worker, but you can't do that. So... for the next three or four hours the blood vessels around your head (that got compressed by the tight muscles) are really engorged with blood and a real good pounding headache ensues. You have this "tension type" headache until you go to sleep. This scenario may be acceptable if it only occurs once a month. However... if this type of thing happens two or three times a week folks, it is not normal. You are not normal. There, I said it... YOU ARE NOT NORMAL IF YOU HAVE HEADACHES ALL THE TIME! I'm glad I got that off my chest. Having been in Chiropractic practice for over seventeen years, it really bugs me when people think that headaches are normal. Something is wrong! Most people do not have to live with headaches. In fact, nine out of ten of the patients seen in my office for headaches are able to get rid of them through gentle, safe Chiropractic care.
